02 April 2010
April is National Poetry Month
where are your poems hiding?
it's time to bring them
out into the open air
like a kite on its string
or the bicycle resting
in shed or basement
or dewdrops on a cobweb
spring flies buzz about
robins sing before dawn
when the streets are quiet
before industry and commerce
rub their sleepy eyes
and scheme-fill pockets
poems on trees and water
couples walk hand in hand
almost bounce on sidewalk
a puppy waters the lawn
frizbees and footballs
road hockey or no hockey
walk the walking bridge
eat an ice cream cone
maple trees in bloom
as the last snow melts
write and recite a poem
with friend or stranger
