ce 19: Motrista journal

Mostrista journal in Mostar that I and all or most all the Sarajevo Poetry Days participating poets have a poem in (in Bosnian original or translation).

We arrived in Mostar midafternoon, in time of a roast calf lunch. It's been day of torrential thunder and lightning storm/showers since before dawn in Sarajevo.

Does "bus of poets" = "ship of fools"?

ce 18: Banja Luka to Sarajevo

One of those days: Space Invaders Against Racism.

Locals in their garden patch just outside of town.

Steel works in the valley about 40 north of Sarajevo.

Next will likely be photos from Sarajevo Poetry Days. Article on yesterday´s opening was in today´s Oslobadenja newspaper (not online)

ce 16: Victory Day

Mr Black cafe quiet, mid morning I heard noises and looked out to discover prep for something in the square beside Hotel Bosna.

Sign on the podium. I'm guessing it might have something in common with the 65th anniversary of the Soviet Russian defeat of Nazi Germany in WWII on 9 May 1945 ... the one big speech I heard repeatedly named Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and other countries ...

and, yes, Republika Srpska celebrates Victory Day or Victory over Fascism Day on 9 Maja. In other parts of Europe, 8 May is the VE-Day celebration.

Old flag and soldiers.

Monument with the hammer and sickle carved into the star.

Choir singing songs including what's likely Republika Srpska's national anthem.

The ceremoney ended with trad musicians and dancers in the square.

One last view, from my balcony, of the dancers in the square forming a V for victory.

ce 13: on the road to Banja Luka

The reka Dunav / Danube river at Novi Sad, Srbjia, from the bus crossing one of the bridges.

Local wicker goods in a roadside market.

Barbies and toy guns in the same roadside market.

View of Banja Luka, Republik Srpska (BiH), from my 4th floor room balcony (on the hotel's 6th floor).

Blurred quick snap of the photographer and interviewer/journalist Tanja Stupar last evening in Mr Black cafe. Tanja is also a poet performing in the Sarajevo Poetry Days festival next week---though not in the same reading(s) as me. When the interview gets printed and posted online I hope to be able to link it to the blog or somewhere ... even though it will all be in Serbian (poet Tatjana Bijelic was translating Tanya's questions and my replies).

Night view of the church located between City Hall and the Casa de Cultura just across the street from Hotel Bosna.

Write Out Loud - Trippin' - The Poet's Corner of Canada: Fredericton, New Brunswick

May Day 2010!

Back in January I was asked to write an article on the poetry scene in Fredericton for an ezine in England. I was so busy that it wasn't until I got to Srbjia two weeks ago that I found some breathing space to write it. I love the photos/illustrations that they added to it (I supplied my photo at the article's beginning and the Fredericton Green-verte launch photo).

Write Out Loud - Trippin'

My next article I intend to be on the 49th Sarajevo Poetry Days festival once, or after, I trip there and participoet again.
